Two Stars in the West

Hey, pardners! The editors at True West magazine recently published their Best of the West 2024. Best of the West is the magazine’s annual list of authors, publishers, filmmakers, booksellers, etc., who have committed themselves to preserving the legacy of the American West. This year’s list includes a couple of names that might be familiar to Flinch fans who enjoyed SIX-GUN LEGENDS, the anthology of western fiction that we published in the summer of 2023.

In the category of Western Books, True West recognized Jeffrey J. Mariotte’s BIRD’S LUCK & OTHER WESTERN STORIES as a notable offering from Silverado Press, an emerging small imprint that specializes in western fiction at a time when many larger publishers have backed away from the genre or folded altogether. Flinch was (and is) proud to have Jeff’s story, “Dead Man Walking,” among the ten tales in SIX-GUN LEGENDS.

True West also named Pinnacle Books as the Best Western Fiction Press of 2023, and specifically mentioned Terrence McCauley as a western writer who is rapidly becoming a household name. Terrence’s contribution to SIX-GUN LEGENDS, “Some Choose Honor,” features a young Army lieutenant named Aaron Mackey in the years before he became the central figure in the author’s four-book Sheriff Aaron Mackey series published by Pinnacle.

Flinch Books tips its ten-gallon hat to these two fine storytellers. We’re grateful to them — and the other eight contributors to SIX-GUN LEGENDS — for sharing their talents with us in 2023!
