A Short Announcement

Hey, Flinch fans! ShortCon, the annual conference for writers of short crime fiction, has graciously invited us to be sponsors for their gathering in Alexandria, Virginia, on June 6. As publishers of numerous short story anthologies ourselves, we’re proud to have our name attached to this prestigious event, which is now in its third year. (Flinch co-founder John C. Bruening, who has spun a few crime stories of his own for Flinch Books and other publishers, will be attending ShortCon again this year after a great experience at the event last June.)

As part of the sponsorship arrangement, conference organizers and moderators Michael Bracken and Stacy Woodson will be distributing copies of Occupied Pulp, our 2021 anthology of post-World War II crime/mystery stories, to ShortCon attendees. We’ve been very proud of this book since we unleashed it on the world five years ago, and we’re excited to introduce it to some new sets of eyes.

Presenters at ShortCon 2026 include Gary Phillips, Michele Slung and Art Taylor. Registration is still open, but we’re told that remaining spots are limited, so if you’re a writer and you want to get in on the action, you can register to attend via their website (which includes a portal to book a reservation at the nearby Westin Alexandria Old Town).

But if you do attend, you gotta promise that you’ll find John in the crowd and say hello. He’ll be far from his NE Ohio home turf, so he’ll be happy to see some friendly faces from the Flinch Army.
