Flinch Friday at Pulpfest
Hey, Flinch fans! The Pulpfest website is getting into high gear with a steady stream of announcements about programming for the August convention in Pittsburgh. As it turns out, Flinch Books will be prominent in two back-to-back afternoon events on Friday, August 8.
At 12:30 pm, Flinch co-founder John Bruening will be part of a panel discussion entitled Personal Demons and the Creative Mind. John will join an impressive lineup of talented writers – Morgan Holmes, Craig McDonald, Will Murray, Laurie Powers and moderator William Patrick Maynard – to talk about the life experiences, personality quirks, hangups and anxieties that fueled the literary output of various pulp-era creators. John will focus his comments primarily on crime fictioneer Raymond Chandler, but don’t be surprised if he offers his two cents as other panelists discuss Robert E. Howard, Lester Dent, William Lindsay Gresham and Daisy Bacon.
Immediately afterward at 1:30 pm, John will rendezvous with his Flinch partner and co-founder Jim Beard to host the (sort of) annual Flinch Fest, a one-hour presentation where we bring conventioneers into the loop about what’s new at Flinch and what’s in the pipeline. This year we’ll be celebrating our tenth anniversary with some discussion about How It All Began; readings from the recently released SGT. JANUS AND THE HOUSE THAT LOVED DEATH and the forthcoming THE MIDNIGHT GUARDIAN: MARCH OF THE GIANTS (available this fall); a reveal of the new Midnight Guardian cover; and a few minutes of Q&A regarding everything you ever wanted to know about Flinch but were afraid to ask. And hey, be sure to grab a ticket on your way into the presentation, because there’ll be a giveaway before it’s all over.
We hope to see you at either or both of these events – or anytime throughout the convention, for that matter. Pulpfest is August 7-10, and August 8 is shaping up to be the Flinch team’s chance to shine!
